The "Wild About Wetlands - Marsh Madness Program" provides fourth through sixth grade students and teachers with a thematic wildlife and wetland ecosystem resource kit (“Wild About Wetlands” kits) and lesson plans as well as a hands-on field day experience (“Marsh Madness” events) for under-served and isolated schools that have barriers to implementing conservation education.

The resource kits and hands-on experience educate students in wetland wildlife identification; appreciation for sensitive wetland ecology; awareness of the interdependence of humans, wetland waterways, wetland animals, plants; demonstration of the positive and negative impacts of human intervention in natural systems; opportunities to become involved in community conservation programs; and ability to make informed decisions about current and future environmental issues. Students will gain the decision-making skills needed for addressing environmental issues, and will be motivated to take action in community-based environmental programs. The current proposal will create sixteen resource kits and seven hands-on events for students in school districts located within the Sacramento River watershed.
